Abstract
Interplay between rite, language, and nation in the historical Eparchy of Mukačevo. Questions of identity among Hungarian Greek Catholics. The article discusses the intertwined effects of ethnicity, language, and religious rite on the development of identity within the Hungarian Greek Catholic community. Its analysis follows this complex process from its beginnings in 1646 – the year the Eparchy of Mukačevo was established – to the end of the 20th century, describing the main developments within the communities living in today’s Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine.
